How is Teeth Whitening (Bleaching) Performed?

What are the Teeth Whitening Stages?

After a detailed examination, the whitening phases are started without applying anesthesia, as pain and pain are not felt. These stages are as follows;

  • By applying special paste-like substances to the tooth, food residues and stains on the tooth surface are cleaned with the help of a brush, this process is called polishing.
  • The initial color of the tooth is recorded before the whitening starts and the difference is measured in this way after bleaching.
  • Bleaching agents should not come into contact with the gums, cheeks, tongue and lips. Appliances are applied to prevent the contact of these substances that can damage soft tissues. A light-curing liquid barrier is applied so that the whitening agents do not leak into the gums, thus protecting the gums from whitening.
  • After all the preparations, the whitening process begins. The whitening agent is applied to the teeth and waited, the waiting time is usually 20 minutes. During this period, the physician does not leave the patient’s side and checks the teeth. For the bleaching agent to act faster, a heat source is required, which heat is provided by blue light. In society, blue light is thought to be laser light, but the wavelength-adjusted blue is normal light, not a laser.
  • After the session period is over, the cleaning and control phase is started. The teeth are washed with clear water and the color is checked. If necessary, the session is repeated immediately or 1-2 days later. Depending on the tooth structure and degree of whiteness, the application is made between 2-6 sessions.
