Polycystic Over Syndrome

Polycystic Over Syndrome

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), which occurs as a result of irregularity in female hormones, can prevent women from ovulating, leading to infertility and even uterine cancer. Although polycystic ovaries make the lives of young girls a nightmare due to the accompanying features such as menstrual delays, excessive hair growth, overweight or obesity, experts point out that the diagnosis and treatment of the disease is easy.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Op. Dr. Sedat Karaosmanoğlu stated that the incidence of polycystic ovary in women of reproductive age varies between 6 and 10 percent according to countries and regions, but he stated that he thinks that the number of people who do not apply to a doctor is high. Reminding that the disease is the result of the imbalance of hormones regulating the female hormone, regular ovulation is damaged, sometimes not at all, Karaosmanoğlu said that there are many small cysts in the eggs due to the disease, therefore it is called Polycystic ovary, which means many cysts. Karaosmanoğlu said, “Patients apply either at the age of 16-20 with complaints such as delayed menstruation, lack of menstruation, hair growth, weight gain, or when there is a problem in the stage of getting married and having a child. We can diagnose almost all of the cases in conditions where the person can reach the gynecologist, since there are obvious complaints such as delayed or absent menstruation, less menstruation, increased hair growth, and weight gain.

Pointing to the importance of early diagnosis, Dr. Karaosmanoğlu continued his words as follows:

“With a simple and inexpensive birth control pill treatment, both the symptoms will disappear and the increase in the risk of uterine cancer that will occur in the long term as a result of hormone imbalance will be prevented. Diagnosis is not difficult, it is not expensive. It is confirmed when the gynecologist looks at a good vaginal ultrasound and sees the typical location of the cysts in the ovaries specific to pco (? What is Turkish?) and looks at the LH, FSH, E2 hormones in the blood. The treatment is a replacement therapy, as in menopause. A low dose birth control pill is given. If the problem persists at the stage of wanting a child, high success can be achieved with a very simple and cheap pill.”

It is seen in young girls and women who have menstrual delays, who are accompanied by hair loss, who are overweight or obese.

Its incidence is between 6 and 10% in women of reproductive age. There is no genetic transition. It is an endocrine, that is, a hormonal situation. As a result of the imbalance of LH and FSH hormones, which are secreted from the pituitary gland and regulate the production of female hormones in the ovaries, regular ovulation is damaged; Since there are obvious complaints such as delayed or absent menstruation, less menstruation, increased hair growth, and weight gain, we can diagnose almost all of the cases when the person can reach the gynecologist. I do not think that the number of women who do not consult a physician is high.

Patients between the ages of 16-20 apply with complaints such as delayed menstruation, abortion, hair growth, and weight gain, or when there is a problem in the process of getting married and having a child.

The most common complaints are delayed menstruation, less menstruation, no menstruation, hair growth, weight gain and infertility.

Early diagnosis is important because with a simple and inexpensive oral contraceptive treatment, the symptoms will disappear and the increase in the risk of uterine cancer will be prevented in the long term as a result of hormonal imbalance. It is confirmed by seeing LH, FSH, E2 hormones in the blood.

The treatment is a replacement therapy, as in menopause. Low-dose oral contraceptives are given. If there is a problem at the stage of wanting a child, high success is achieved with Clomiphene citrate, which is a very simple and inexpensive pill.
